Infant & convertible car seats…help! ?
I'm trying to pick an infant car seat and a convertible car seat for my baby due in March. So far, I think I'm going with the Graco Snug Ride (devon) & maybe the Recaro Signo Convertible seat. My only concern is that the Recaro is very expensive (almost 300), and I don't know how long I'll use it. It says it goes up to 70lbs, but since I don't have any other children, I don't know what age that is.
So basically, i want to know if the brands I'm picking are good, and how old (generally speaking) is a 70lb. child?
Also, any opinions on a travel system stroller vs, an infant car seat with a stroller frame?

70 lbs is pretty old. I would say at least 6 years old! Which by that time, you wouldnt need carseat, just a booster seat. Technically, its a good buy, but in reality, its not, because you don’t need it that long. I got a travel system stroller. I obviously don’t use the carseat as my daughter is a toddler now, but I still use the stroller, and I find it better than the ones they make for toddlers, because its bigger and has places for drinks/snacks, and a places for a diaper bag at the bottom.

If you are buying a convertible seat you do not need an infant seat. Convertible seats work from 5 lb – 60/70 lbs. If you want to use a stroller you do not need an infant car seat – they have strollers that recline all the way or have bassinet conversions to use for newborns.
We didn’t know any better and bought a Graco Snug Ride and now have to buy a Convertible (she is almost 8 months). Wish I would have saved my money…

My son is 5 1/2 and only 43-45 lbs. So that car seat should last you for as long as your child needs to be in a 5-point harness. When you eventually need a high back booster they’re not very expensive. The Recaro is highly rated. You could even skip the infant-carrier style seat, the Recaro Signo can be used with babies as small as 5 lbs. Many people never use and infant-carrier style seat and use a wrap to carry their newborn. But if you decide to get an infant carrier car seat the Graco Snug Ride is fine.
I had a travel system with my first child and separate car seat and stroller with my second and personally preferred not to have the travel system because I prefer to use a jogging stroller even when strolling in the mall.

You don’t have to buy an infant seat..BUT….we are glad we did..if you go to the store you can just put the infant seat right on the cart…if you don’t get an infant seat and you want to go to the store, you are going to have to push the stroller AND the cart!!!! Think of it that way…
We used teh Snug ride as well..it was great! We just switched to the convertible, my son was 6 1/2 months..29” and 19lbs
We went wtih the Britax marathon and the Sunshine kids Radian 65..both pricey but worth every penny!!!!! I think these both go up to 65lbs..your baby will be in one of these for about 3 years.

My niece is 6 and still weighs under 50 pounds. Of course it depends on the child but I say closer to 8 or 9.
