They may have outgrew their rear facing car seat at this stage and now need a forward facing seat which is known as a Group 1 seat. If your baby is in a group 0+ car seat which is new, and they weigh up to 13kg they will not need to go into forward facing baby car seats as early. Some car seats can sit babys rear facing for longer. Forward facing baby car seats will last your baby until they reach about 18kg and around 4 years of age. Those seats are known as Group 1 can seats and are much heavier and larger than your babys first car seat. Those types of seats do not come with a carrying handle. Some of those seats come with a 5 point harness and use the cars seat belt which holds the car seat firmly in place. Some lighter and newer Group 2 car seats can be used with your child using the cars own seatbelt. Make sure this type of seat belt sits across your childs shoulder and not the neck. Also make sure it sits across your childs lap area rather than the stomach. Some forward facing baby car seats will last your baby until they are around 6 years of age and up to 25kg. hi i'm gonna be a first time mum and was wondering if every baby's car seat needs one of those bases you can get? Does it depend on what type of car seat im getting? Or is it there for extra safety? obviously i'll get one if it means my baby will be more secure in a car crash. Hope you can help. Many thanks. just to clarify, do i need a baby's car seat and a base??
